Our primary design goals for the basic game were to keep it simple and make sure it works. We want to keep the simple mass appeal –a la Risk. We can up the complexity a little with the expansions. Still, we’d like to keep things as streamlined and simple as possible.
Looking back, I think that is one of the things that hurt the original Supremacy. The expansions were overly complex and not well thought out. They tended to bog the game down in excessive work and unplaybalanced confusion. I think that had a lot to do with its eventual demise. It never got ‘fixed’. Just had more broken expansions heaped on top. It got more broken as it went and people gave up on it.
We feel that we have a good solid foundation now. Nothing is perfect. There are always a few tweaks you can make but the basic game as a whole works very well. We want to make sure we don’t make the same mistakes as the original. That is our vision anyways.
