Little Bighorn Q&A

Some players like more detail or have specific questions on play.  You can find many answers here.  Don’t see your question?  Send us an email!

Do I still have to stop when crossing a Ford?

No.   ‘No Effect’ means you can cross them for free.  So the river doesn’t slow you down as long as you cross at a ford.  You can shoot straight across.  You only have to stop when NOT crossing at a ford.

If the Sioux don’t move until turn 4, why put there chits in the cup?

Exactly.  You don’t.  This is exactly what we do.  No point in even putting them in until turn 4.  We do still pull chits for the Cav for those turns.  Sometimes you can have traffic snarls because the forward Command moves last.  A hassle but that is the way things go sometimes in the field.

If a Gatling Gun jams, is it jammed for the rest of the game?

No, just for the rest of that fire.  Next turn it is ready to go.  -assuming they are still around….

If I disengage from a combat, can I then attack another enemy piece?

Yes, as long as you end up at least 1/3 move away from the original contact.

I was curious what the little ‘cross’ for?

It has no impact on the game but it does mark the location of Reno’s final stand for historical reference.

And why are there little symbols for Indian mounted troops along the western edge – what are they for?

These mark the locations of the pony herds. We experimented with rules to factor these into game play and VPs. They ended up too complicated so we dropped them from the basic game. We left them on the map for historical reference and so you can add optional rules for this later.

Why are there 4 Custer stickers?

We couldn’t decide which set of stickers we liked best, so we included them both. We included an extra block so you can make both of them.

Option 1

Standard Flag with Gold sticker: This keeps all the HQs the same and makes it harder for the Sioux to tell where Custer is.

Option 2

Custer’s personal standard with Buckskin sticker: This is historical and just plain cool. You might try switching to this block once Custer is already spotted.

What is the best way to keep the bag drawstrings from sliding too far back into the bag?

Tie BOTH ends of the strings together. Works great!

Can HQs attack and fight?

Yes! This is on page 1, Pieces, HQs.

If I only have 1 Sioux Tribe present, all I have to do to win is just exit off the north edge? How could the Cav ever beat me?

Because the Sioux can’t start moving until Turn 4! See Surprise at the bottom of page 2.
