Aggression- New player Strategy Tips

When facing the uncertainty of learning a new game, the tendency is to hesitate.  Well, I’m not really sure what to expect here.  I don’t want to make a foolish mistake and blow the game right off the bat.  I think I’ll just sit back and watch and see what happens….

In Supremacy 2020, that is a crucial mistake.  Here’s why:

  1. In many games, combat favors the defender.  Not so in Supremacy 2020.  Fire is simultaneous.  There is no defensive benefit for terrain.  Combat actually favors the aggressor as the attacker can choose when and where he attacks.  The attacker determines how many armies will be firing against how many defenders.
  2. In addition to that, the attacker controls the initiative.  When and where are we fighting?  By attacking, you can control where the war is fought and under what terms.  This is what you want.  You want other players to react to you.  Fight in a theater that is easy for you to operate in.  Force the enemy to fight in theaters that are difficult for him.  This is a huge impact.
  3. Afraid of making mistakes?  Of looking foolish?  Get over it.  You are going to make plenty of foolish mistakes your first several games.  There’s no way out of that.  So what?!  That is actually how we learn!  Don’t be afraid.  Throw yourself out there.  Don’t just stand there, do something!  Even if it is wrong.  You will learn much more and far faster by making mistakes and messing things up.
  4. Besides, what’s the worst that can happen?  So you make a few blundering attacks and totally screw yourself.  That actually helps you in many ways.  You have learned a lot about combat and what not to do.  You also look very non-threatening to the other players now.  This is huge.  Often, players gang up on and attack the dangerous and most strong looking players.  That won’t be you now.  Odds are, they will leave you alone and worry about bigger threats.  This gives you time to build and recover.  When you do, you will be a much wiser foe on the battlefield.  That’s not what they are expecting.

So there you have it.  No good can come from just sitting on the sidelines and building.  Deploy.  Expand.  Invade.  Attack.  You can’t achieve global supremacy by just sitting there.  Besides, attacking is so much more fun!!!  🙂
