A question on movement over terrain. I have the Little Bighorn game, but this could be for any. Have not seen an answer anywhere else. If a unit moves over multiple pieces of terrain in one move, does it deduct 1/3 of its movement times the number of terrain ( i.e. slopes or woods). In LBH, a unit could move over two slopes in one move, does that mean it only moves 1/3 or…..is the move penalty minus 1/3 of your movement regardless of how many terrain effects you moved over.
We played the latter, which worked fine.

The latter is correct. You pay once. Some times it’s easier to think of it as you always move 2/3, but if you remain entirely in clear terrain you get that bonus third.

Of course, you still pay for other maneuvers like facing changes beyond the first.

Hello. I am really enjoying playing solo with the Pub Battles rules. For large-scale battles they are the most interesting rules I’ve encountered so far. And easy, thankfully. I don’t have one of the games, but play various Napoleonic scenarios, using homemade blocks made to resemble the official ones, and crude hand-drawn maps. I did this to get the feel of the rules first. The official maps and blocks look too nice to pass up, so I’ll have to purchase at least one soon probably Marengo.

Meantime I have two question that keep coming up as I play and I can’t get a solid resolution in my head.
    1) In a situation where the attacking side attacks with an infantry unit frontally (moves into contact with enemy infantry unit), and in the same turn attacks the flank with a cavalry unit, how does the combat get resolved? Does the charging cavalry register its hits during the move phase, and if the defending infantry unit is still in place, then infantry combat occurs in the combat? phase?
    2) If a cavalry unit attacks an infantry unit frontally, registers its hits during the move phase, and the infantry unit is still in contact, then in the combat phase does the cavalry unit get another combat opportunity along with the defending infantry unit, or does the charge attack count as its one and only combat in this turn?

Thanks, and keep up the great work everyone!

      Awesome! Thank you.

      1) Assuming the cavalry can charge, then yes. The Cav would contact first. Resolve the combat. Then the attacking infantry would attack the defender if he is still there. Resolve that combat at the end of the turn, unless that attacking infantry can charge too. Note that cavalry cannot always charge.

      2) Assuming the cav charged, you would resolve that combat immediately. If the Cav won, the defending infantry would have been pushed back or destroyed. That means there wouldn’t be a combat to resolve with it later at the end of the turn. -Unless, the ‘defending’ side moved later in the turn, and attacked the cav sitting there. It depends on how it all goes down.

Yes, the cavalry could end up fighting again later at the end of the turn.

Thanks for clearing that up. I went back and watched the Pub Battles combat tutorial, and it made more sense to me now. I do love these rules. Sometimes situations come up that don’t seem so clear, but take it through slowly and it all makes sense. Like trying to pronounce a very large Hawaiian word. In their language, every letter has only ONE sound. Say them all correctly and the word comes out perfectly. Maybe your teeth too if they are false.

I started taking a look at Supremacy and realized that a lot of what you put into it is similar to what I have done with my own Napoleonic campaign using the old RISK board game for a strategic map, with battles conducted off the board using Pub Battles rules. I started this before I had ever heard of Pub Battles. But I don’t use a nuke option, since they didn’t exist in Napoleonic era. Is there a Napoleonic era version of Supremacy? It seems interesting and would like to follow up.

    Thanks

A question regarding hits on units: Say in one turn a unit gets one hit and the piece is turned over to indicate it’s spent. On the next turn, the unit is involved in another battle and retreats. On the 3rd turn the same unit is involved in another battle and is hit again. Since the hits are supposed to be cumulative, would the unit be eliminated on turn 3, or would this unit just have to retreat again? I just want to make sure I’m playing right. Thanks for any input.

Just to further clarify, in each turn the same piece is hit only once.

Good question. We need to clarify this somehow.

Cumulative within the Combat. From round to round. Not from turn to turn.

So if you got 1 hit in the first round and became spent, 2 hits in the 2nd round would destroy you.

Being spent does carry over in a way. If you start off a combat spent, 2 hits will destroy you in round 1.

      Hopefully that helps!

Those are explained in the rules for Frigates & SoLs.

Basically, a Frigate is twice the size of a Brig. A SoL is 4 times as big. The rules explain how to apply damage so you don’t have to have a bazillion cards in your hand!

      =)
